We hope the Vow from Hiroshima moved you

March 3, 2023 Written by rch

We hope you appreciated the depth of Vow from Hiroshima. Silent Spring was written at a time when the American symbol, the bald eagle, was endangered. But Rachel Carson wrote that Silent Spring was about more than birds or DDT…

Silent Spring was driven by a concern about poisoning the entire earth and all of life. The greatest threat at that time remains a threat today – in fact, it is a concern that today’s news primarily skirts around, rather than addressing head-on.

The award-winning film we hosted introduced a woman who had the fortune to live long enough to see results of her passion to change the world. The horrific effects of bombing of Hiroshima and subsequent nuclear bomb testing, gives a context for Rachel Carson’s passion and the politically-driven attacks against her work.
