Visiting the Rachel Carson Homestead
Celebrate Rachel’s life and legacy by visiting her birthplace and early home: the place most significant environmentalist in her too-short life. This site is where she lived and discovered the outdoors, developed her own “sense of wonder,” drew water from a spring-house, read and dreamed of becoming a writer.
Limited Tours Available by Request and Reservation only in order to reduce the risk and spread of COVID-19, to protect you and ourselves!
Weather permitting, we welcome visitors in small groups with tours by appointment. The Homestead has small rooms. Up to 4 people can be accommodated, possibly more if living in the same household or primarily visiting outdoors.
For your protection and ours, we limit our visitors to people who are vaccinated against COVID-19 to the maximum available protocol.
We request that you wear a mask. Please bring one with you.
We sanitize specific areas between tours.
Because of old and upholstered furniture, at this time we ask that you wear gloves.
You can email or phone 724-274-5459 for updates. Please allow time for us to return your call or email! We are all volunteers at this time.
We sincerely appreciate your patronage. Normally our tour fees and your gift shop purchases cover costs of utilities. The pandemic has negatively impacted funds.
The wooded sensory walking trail is open dawn-to-dusk.
We appreciate your interest and look forward to your visit!
