PSU Students honor MLK Jr at RCH

January 27, 2019 Leave a Comment Written by rch

Penn State University students from various campuses in Southwest PA celebrated the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday as a Day of Service, including at the Rachel Carson Homestead. These young people acted in honor of the icon of racial and social justice with their slogan ”Make it a Day On, Not a Day Off” to work at the humble birthplace of the icon of environmental awareness.

The Homestead benefited from their efforts – with a new coat of paint in a workroom to overdue attention to the basement, they organized and cleaned. We are most appreciative of their time and energies. As stewards of the Homestead, we are most appreciative of the help. “THANK YOU” to all!

Some of the students hadn’t known of Rachel Carson and her legacy before the visit. We are happy to have more people learn about Rachel’s legacy, and invited the students to visit again. The Homestead welcomes visitors – and relies on volunteer groups –  throughout the year
