2025 Week at Rachel’s Cottage is July 12-19

Limited chances for use of Rachel Carson’s seaside cottage for the week of July 12-19 2025 will be available shortly! We sell only 100 tickets at $100 each. Public drawing March 31, 2025 at 1pm Eastern at the Homestead and via Zoom.  

This will be the ninth year we are offering the opportunity to support the Homestead in Springdale, PA with a chance to visit the place Rachel came to love.

After The Sea Around Us was published in 1951, Rachel personally selected the site with granite shores and tidepools on Southport Island. The ocean view is the centerpiece of the cottage, which she designed as the place to spend her summers.

You will first need to (1) acknowledge that you are at least 18 years of age, and (2) accept that RCHA reserves the right to award cash ($2,000) in the unlikely case that the visit cannot be awarded – here’s the explanation:  RCHA expects to award the visit and only if circumstances beyond the control of RCHA prohibit the visit, RCHA will, with the agreement of the raffle winner and cottage owners, attempt to re-scheduling or postpone the visit. The cottage is normally fully-booked in advance so RCHA will not reschedule simply for convenience of the winner, This caveat was inspired by some tenuous moments due to 2020’s COVID-19 issues. For the record: 2020’s raffle winner from California was able to make the trip (after timely medical clearance from California, required by Maine, which also required self-quarantining…) and had a wonderful time – in fact, is in line to purchase a ticket for 2021! 

Note: you may need to allow pop-ups to purchase a ticket through RCHA Square store, where payments are accepted with a credit or debit card. You will be contacted via email within two days to confirm your chance purchase. 

This fund-raiser is most important for continuing our mission of maintaining and restoring Rachel Carson’s homestead, offering programs, and welcoming visitors.

The prize is for use of Rachel’s cottage for the week of July 13-20, 2024. The prize does not include travel or other expenses. Taxes and any other expenses are the responsibility of the winner. RCHA cannot advise on tax matters.
