Black Friday Alternative for SHS Basketball

November 28, 2023 Written by rch

Coach Kobe Phillippi brought the Springdale High School boys’ basketball team to learn about community service and the importance of giving back.

Some of the students hadn’t heard of Rachel Carson, so they were given a three sentence introduction. Then in just a few hours they loaded about 70 bags of leaves, assembled furniture for our classroom, planted, moved picnic tables, and more. We thank them!

Afterwards, I thought how appropriate to give community service here. A better introduction would have been to note that the woman born in this small house came to international fame – yet jeopardized her comfortable life to provide “community service” to the entire bio-community and beyond.

The tasks were more diffiult than they look!

The extra-large bed truck was loaded with two layers of bags full of leaves. A second load was required for the remainder: about 70 bags in all!

And we invite you to plan a Community Service day – or join us on a Volunteer day. Contact us to schedule!
