Visiting the Rachel Carson Homestead

Celebrate Rachel’s life and legacy by visiting her birthplace and early home: the place most significant environmentalist in her too-short life. This site is where she lived and discovered the outdoors, developed her own “sense of wonder,” drew water from a spring-house, read, and dreamed of becoming a writer.

House Tours Available by Request and Reservation

We welcome individual visitors in small groups with tours by appointment. We attempt to accommodate all requests – please complete the form to help us welcome you.

By the way, if you are passionate about Rachel Carson’s legacy and can spare some time, please consider applying to volunteer as a docent. Training will be provided. Please use our Contact form.

Request a reservation through the form below. Provide as much information as you can so that we can review your request as soon as possible. Please note that we must coordinate and confirm the date and time before your erservation is considered complete. Thank you for understanding.

Be sure to include your telephone# and check your spam folder, or filter your email to include (also called “whitelisting”) email from our domain @RachelCarsonHomestead.org. We may reply with a call from a personal phone#, in which case we will leave a message (or text, if possible).

We sincerely appreciate your patronage. Tour fees and your gift shop purchases help to cover the costs of utilities, insurances, etc.

FYI: The wooded Sensory Walking Trail  is open dawn-to-dusk. We try to remove poison ivy, but advise you to use your own judgment and caution.

Note on the form: To prove that you are a human and not some spam agent, the answer to a challenge question is TEXT without spaces. For example: if the question is “what is ten minus five” the answer is FIVE – with no leading or trailing space. If you still have an issue, please contact us by email or phone message. Thank you!
