How to help

 Become Engaged

As we continue to grow in 2024, we will need docents.  We invite you who have maximum passion and even a few hours a month (or more, as you like) to represent the Rachel Carson Homestead, Rachel’s legacy and messages both on-site in Springdale, and through personal outreach.  Orientation will be provided.

We hope to form several committees; such as house restoration/maintenance, landscapeCommon Buckeye, a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. and hardscape inventory, stewardship, administration, fund-raising and development.  All of the efforts will go toward building the site into a well-recognized destination.

Volunteer groups are welcome. Please send an email with your organization’s name and dates(s) you are available to info@RachelCarsonHomestead.org

Film links will be displayed after you submit the form...

Your Donation is vital!

Donations of any amount are appreciated. Square will collect your information so that we can provide you with a receipt for tax purposes. None of your information will be shared with any third-party. You may also “adopt” a room or a project. Sign up for notifications!

You may use a debit or credit card, or your PayPal account.

Please do NOT donate via Facebook! This website is the official venue for donations.

Donate via Square   *The box with “$0.00” allows you to enter a custom amount.

Thank you for your support!

Like many organizations that rely on visitor fees, the global pandemic was especially diffcult. We also have had extra expenses in updating technology so that we can offer programs virtually.

SPONSOR a project or program. These are some ideas that may interest you, from house repairs and maintenance to programs and more:

  • SPONSOR  a component such as window, window shutters, etc.
  • Start a fund-raiser!
  • Adopt a “writing room” – two rooms to be available for writers… more information coming soon!
  • Purchase a personalized engraved  commemorative brick paver to be installed with our new sign!
  • Education – sponsor services for different ages and audiences
  • Restoration of the original spring-house – interior needs to be re-built/repointed
  • Music-lovers can help:
    • Restoration of the 1869 Steinway square grand – a “perfect candidate” for restoration… more information soon.
    • Virtual program with music relevant to Rachel’s interests… contact us
  • Artists – share your talent to help promote Rachel Carson’s legacy and her historic birthplace
  • Other funds – physical site improvements and emergency repairs
  • The home of Rachel Carson is on the National Register of Historic Places. Each project requires careful attention and expertise.

  • Maintenance – we steward a very old frame house!
  • Internships – to develop educational materials

The 1869 Steinway square grand piano is suitable for restoration.

The springhouse provided water to the Carson family. The interior is in need of repair.

We offer environmental education programs to educate the community.
