The Rachel Carson Homestead

January 31, 2017 Written by rch

The Rachel Carson Homestead is the birthplace and childhood home of Rachel Carson. Rachel was born on May 27, 1907 in this humble four-room farmhouse. The Carson homestead included nearly 65 acres along the Allegheny River in what is now Springdale Borough, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  The original four rooms and a spring-house are intact. A nonprofit corporation runs the Homestead, making it available to the public for tours every Saturday from April 22 through November, and by appointment. Special programs are also hosted here.
